I am an experienced Computer Science teacher and current Head of Computer Science, with over 13 years of teaching experience. During this time, I have taught students across a wide range of ages and abilities, from those taking their first steps into programming through to GCSE and A-Level students preparing for examinations and further study.

I am passionate about making Computer Science accessible and enjoyable. I believe that students learn best when complex concepts are broken down into manageable steps and supported by practical examples, particularly when learning programming. My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual student, whether they are looking to build their confidence, improve their programming ability, prepare for an examination or challenge themselves beyond the classroom.

I have extensive experience teaching Computer Science at GCSE and A-Level, including programming, algorithms, computational thinking, computer systems, networks, cybersecurity, databases and many other areas of the curriculum. I also have experience working as an exam marker for both OCR and AQA, giving me valuable insight into examination technique, mark schemes and what examiners are looking for in high-quality responses. This allows me to help students not only develop their subject knowledge, but also understand how to apply that knowledge effectively in examinations.

My experience as a Head of Department also gives me a strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment and the skills students need to make progress and achieve their potential.

Programming is a particular area of expertise and I can support students in a range of languages, including Python, Java and C++. I can also provide tuition in broader IT and digital skills, including HTML and CSS website development, databases and general computing skills.

Above all, my tutoring is student-centred. I aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing the confidence to solve problems independently.
